Our Team

Nelson Lewis

Owner & Barista

Though Nelson’s Barista career only began in 2018, his coffee passion took root as early as he can remember. In fact, if you ask him how he takes his coffee, don’t be surprised when he answers with, “Everywhere.” His late barista start might be due to his successful career as a veterinarian at Red River Equine Hospital; a pursuit backed by his Bachelor of Science and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from LSU and training in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture in Colorado.

As one of the owners of Coffee On The Red, Nelson couldn’t be more proud to introduce his community to the third wave of coffee.

Favorite Drinks:
HOT: “A single origin fruit bomb or a plain latte.”
COLD: “A cold brew with cream.”

Besides a new found passion for coffee, when Nelson can find the time between his various extracurriculars, he can be found fishing and skiing (on snow or water). Like our managers, he is also passionate about music. Word around the shop is that he plays a mean saxophone. His taste varies but Michael Brecker, Redtenbacher’s Funkestra, David Sanborn, and John Coltrane are among his favorite musicians and inspirations.

Nelson’s mantra goes, “A rich man who is discontent will always be poor, a poor man who is content will always be rich.” and you can see this personified in his dedication to every new challenge he takes on.

Favorite Music:
R&B | Funk | Blues | Rock | Hair Bands | Jazz | Contemporary Christian

How would the crew describe Nelson?
Undoubtedly one of the two coolest bosses around. Certified sources have described him as, a witty go-getter who is “super chill.”

Andrew Lewis

Owner & Barista

Andrew’s love of coffee began during his days studying at LSU where, like his brother, he followed his passion for animals. He graduated from LSU-School of Veterinary Medicine with his MS and DVM. Andrew continued on that path and has for the last 15 years, serving as a Diplomat for the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and a Certified Animal Chiropractor. As an avid coffee drinker, Andrew has no trouble clearing out his schedule to make room for said beverage. His mornings and workdays are simply incomplete without it. Besides finally getting to add “Get your daily Coffee On The Red” to his to-do list, Andrew is pumped to serve a menu that takes pride in the attention to detail each drink entails. He is confident they have a passionate team dedicated to presenting the best cup of coffee every time.

Favorite Drinks:
HOT: “An Americano (classic espresso roast) or a Kalita pour-over (fog navigator).”
COLD: “Nitro Brew.”

If he finds himself with free-time, Andrew engages in various outdoor hobbies and activities like archery and hunting. Other than those, he’s in for any activity that lets him spend time with his family. Andrew has been blessed with an amazing wife, two silly boys, four dogs, two cats, one horse, and a goat. Andrew’s love for his family is built on a firm foundation of faith through the grace and salvation of Jesus Christ.

Favorite Quote:
“Of the two evils, choose neither.”
- C.H. Spurgeon

Favorite Music:
Johnny Cash | Trombone Shorty | Augustus Toplady | RUSH

How would the crew describe Andrew?
The other half of the two coolest bosses you could have. Like his brother, this guy loves a good laugh. So if comedy loves good company, it’s clearly shown when you see them work together.

JP Wade

Co-Manager & Barista

Much like his Co-Manger Cody, JP is hardly seen without a coffee on hand or nearby. His love of coffee started when he began working as a barista and only grew as his knowledge and skill progressed. JP’s past supervisor experience, effortless people skills and passion for the industry is what Coffee On The Red is all about.

Favorite Drinks:
HOT: “Mocha or a black cup of a French press.”
COLD: “Cold brew, mostly black but sometimes sweetened with a little bit of cream.”

What’s the strangest coffee trend?
With everyone doing the Keto diet, I’ll see people put butter in drip coffee. It presumably suppresses hunger and reduces jitters, but there’s just no way it tastes good.

Who is your ideal customer?
Pretty much anyone who wants to talk music or shares my love of cold brew. When he’s not huddled over a French press, you might find JP playing tennis or video games to decompress. But more likely he’ll be filling his time with some sort of music related activity. JP has been a drummer for various local groups as well as taking on some contracted work. Through his love of music, he has had the opportunity to travel and share the hard work he puts into his practice with new people in new places.

Favorite Music:
Heavy Music | Hip Hop | Ambient Rock

“More than anything we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to create a positive work environment with other baristas who are just as passionate about creating high quality beverages.

Having access to such advanced equipment has given us a chance to really get creative and we’re ready to show the locals what we’ve come up with.”
